Student Spotlight: Mikie D'Angelo

Mikie D'Angelo is a 17 year old senior at Locust Fork High School. Almost every extra minute that he has is spent fishing. He has been fishing in tournaments for three years. On February 28, 2009, he fished his best tournament ever.

It was the Choo-Choo division of the Bass Fishing League tournament. It consisted of 400 fisherman; Mikie was the youngest participating. He fished all day long, and he knew he had a large weight, but "I still thought someone had a bigger weight."

When he arrived at the weigh-in, he asked his mom what weight was winning, and she told him 16 lbs. "I felt a lot better when I found out that 16 lbs. was winning." Mikie walked up to the weigh-in and had an amazing 33 lbs 9 oz in five fish. This was more than enough to put him into first with second place weight being 21 lbs. 15 oz. Mikie received $3,000 for first place, and $500 for Big Fish; an 8 lbs. 8 oz. Largemouth.

When asked why he enjoyed fishing, Mikie said, "I like the challenge of it, especially the days you don't catch nothing. You learn the most on those days."
