What is Student Council?
A student council is a group of students working together
with an adult advisor within the framework of a constitution or by-laws
to provide a means for student expression and assistance in school
affairs and activities, give opportunities for student experience
in leadership and encourage student/faculty/community relations.
"Student council is learning opportunity for involving
young people in their own school to develop commitments to citizenship,
scholarship, leadership, human relationships, and cultural values
that our heritage may have even greater worth for the next generation."
–Dr. Earl Reum
Student Council Values
Everything we do, every decision we make, and of course,
every action we take is based on our consciously or unconsciously
held beliefs, attitudes, and values. Leaders are held to a higher
standard, whether it is fair or not.
Everyone’s values are different, and you have
to decide where you stand. Student leaders should always be willing
to evaluate their own values system.
"The size of a leader is determined by the depth of his convictions,
the height of his ambitions, the breadth of his vision and the reach
of his love." –D.N. Jackson
